Abstraction Artist Statement
The use of abstract language in the body of this work becomes a means through which concepts of the universe found in Sanskrit chants and in the study of the concept of Brahman - introduced by the 7th-Century philosopher Sankara - can be deconstructed. The influence of Western art-historical canons and the export of Modernism around the globe, are reflected in the work’s ongoing experimentation with painting’s formal mechanics in search of new forms.
